I had a party at my house a while back and I wanted to make homemade spicy seasoned pretzels; kind of like Dot’s Pretzels, but better (mine don’t contain artificial flavors).

My guests at the party LOVED the homemade pretzels.  I mean, they disappeared!

Several people asked for the recipe, so I knew I was onto something.  I kept tweaking my recipe, experimenting with spices, and this iteration is the best!

These pretzels were the perfect munchie at my party, and they’d also be ideal for packing kids’ lunches, movie nights at home, sporting events, and more.

Ingredients needed to make this recipe (scroll down to recipe card for complete recipe):

  • Mini pretzels
  • Vegetable oil
  • Spices (cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, dried dill, smoked paprika, black pepper)

How to make Spicy Seasoned Pretzels:

  1. Add pretzels to a large bowl.  Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and preheat oven to 300.
  2. Combine the seasonings and oil in a measuring cup and stir.
  3. Pour the seasoned oil over the pretzels and stir until well-combined.
  4. Distribute the pretzels among the baking sheets and scrape any seasoned oil still in the bowl onto the pretzels.
  5. Bake pretzels for 7 minutes.
  6. Let the pretzels cool completely (I like to wait an hour or so) before storing in an air-tight container. (full recipe on card below)

How spicy are these pretzels?

These pretzels are moderately spicy.  To make them less spicy, I would omit the cayenne pepper.

For extra spicy pretzels, you could add additional cayenne pepper.

How to store seasoned pretzels

Make sure you let these pretzels fully cool, then transfer them to an air-tight container at room temperature.

They should stay fresh for a week or two.

NOTES:

  • I have experimented with adding and omitting sea salt to the seasonings, but I feel that they’re a little too salty with it added.  However, my guests did love them that way.  There is already salt on the pretzels, but you could always add some afterwards if desired.
